Welcome to Mrs. Riser's Business 1 Stock Market Blog

This semester, you will be playing the Stock Market Game and managing a $100,000 investment portfolio with your partner.  Each week, you will reflect on how your portfolio performed and provide your thoughts in a blog post that your teacher, classmates, and others will be able to read and respond to.

This will give you a chance to offer and ask for advice and/or warnings about certain investments, provide your reactions to market activity and news that has occurred over the week, and indicate your hopes and predictions regarding where the markets (and your specific investments in the SMG) are heading.

  1. Sydney, Langley:
In our stock our total cash balance is $97,839.89, and our total portfolio equity is $99,962.78. It allows our ranking to be 13 out of 93 in the region. Our buying power is in the positives with the amount of $147,821.28. In our portfolio we would like to see more growth in our stocks that we invested in and it would allow us to make more profit. The changes we would like to see are total cash balance rise from purchasing stocks.

    1. Great job! Thanks for sharing, girls. What are your thoughts on your specific investments? You are ranked quite well, despite having lost equity. What does this tell you about other students' portfolios? What is your reaction to last weeks' news regarding the stock market? Did that news affect your investments?

Looking at our stocks we realized we have a total percent unrealized gains losses or -0.63%. We feel that our portfolio isn't doing as well as we had hoped. we would like to see our ranking rise and to be making money instead of losing it.

Netflix is letting us down a good bit with its under appreciative performance this week, as are other stocks. However we will continue to keep stocks such as Nike and DirecTV until they bring us in a profit before we sell them. On the other hand stocks such as Gladfelter and Duke Enterprises are performing up to par and we are extremely pleased with there performance on the stock market.

All of our stocks to increase in profit would be extremely beneficial to the game, however just increasing back to the market price that we bought for would also be helpful. We would like Netflix to go back up to its 461 dollars per share.

At the moment we feel good about our account. We feel that later on the trades that are currently low will eventually rise and do us good in the end. only one stock is doing good and all the other 5 of them are falling down.

we would like to see most or all of our stocks to go up and if it plans to stay in the red to not be as bad as it was before. we would like to have our rank go higher

I feel as if we are doing alright. We could be doing better. We need to invest in more stocks since on our chart its mainly money. Plus right now most of our stocks are not doing to great.

I would like to see the stocks go up, we are going to keep doing what we are doing, do our research and think before we buy shares. But we need to take risks, it's all about risks.

We are disappointed with our portfolio because of our 2.03% loss in our stocks. The prediction for PBYI was suppose to reach a 1 year target of $305.67 and it is only at $225.53. We hope to see growth in this area.

The changes we want to see:

We want to buy more stocks by the end of this week. Our account holdings are only 16.1 % stocks. We want to increase that to at least 60% stocks. We are also planning on buying stocks in health care and technology to better diversify and to grow our portfolio.

This sharp decrease happened when Boeing Company went down -4.41% which caused us to lose $1,749.56. Other than being displeased with the Boeing Company we were happy about all of our other holdings due to the rest having an increase.

So far in the game we are doing fairly well. At the beginning we bought two big stocks that originally did not do that well because they were at a high price, but after a few weeks they began to rise in profit price and made a good earning. Then we bought a few smaller stocks and a mutual fund that has been a steady earning for us. We are gradually making profits as our stocks are increasing daily. We feel that if we just watch out stocks and buy and sell at the right time, that we can increase our profit earnings and our rank in the game.

We still would like to see vast improvements in almost all of our stocks especially Netflix and Bita. However even with the fault of these two stocks we are also impressed by how Papa Johns and Gladfelter are providing for us. Some changes we would like to see would be the improvement of Times Warner and VFC increase in Cash gain.

We are feeling better about our portfolio. It went bad when we purchased netflix because they went down a lot in value. We sold that stock and we have slowly been coming up in rankings.

AAPL is still our best investment. We are currently thinking about selling some of our stocks that continue to go down. We also are thinking about buying some more mutual funds but haven't gotten the chance to do the research.

So far this week our stock portfolio is doing fairly well. We have come out of debt and are above the $100,000 mark. Most of our stocks that were down are beginning to increase and are at a low percentage of loss. Our others are beginning to make us money. Also are mutual funds are doing really well and are making us the most money that are portfolio has. Our goal for the end of this week and next week is for our stocks to continue going up and make us a good profit.

As this week is coming to and end we are not feeling too good about the result of our portfolio. Our portfolio continues to go down except for the International Paper Company. There was one spike in our Portfolio during the week that caused us to go from 59th to 29th. But now as of a result of yesterdays stocks and mutual funds being down we are now in 40th place. It seems that our stocks are always unpredictable. What we think is going to be a good turnout isn't

One stock we may regret in buying is Netflix because lately it has been declining with little spikes back up here and there. Netflix hasn't been doing so well recently so we may regret that in the long run. Only time will tell with our holdings.

We feel that we could be doing better right now, but we're still waiting to see if our stocks will go up though. We invested in many stocks, some that weren't doing good at the time hoping they will go up and some that were doing good hoping they would at least give us a little money. The stocks we invested in didn't all fall in the same category either. We have stocks ranging from sports, clothes, food, etc.
Some changes I would like to see occur is for our money to go up and for our stocks that aren't doing good to start to get us in the positives. Like Texas Roadhouse, and Netflix. Other than that we feel we're doing pretty good.

    1. Try not to sell your stocks without first seeing why they may be down. You dont want to sell them if they will improve.

    2. If your stocks are negative, don't sell them! They'll bounce back eventually, you never want to lose money on an investment, just give it some time

How we feel: We are pleased with our stocks and how they are doing. Our stocks are making a large amount of profit especially our visa stock. Our Pandora stock is not doing well so we hope to see that stock change or we may sell it in the future. Overall we are pleased with the stocks.
    Changes we want to see:
We want to see growth in our Pandora stock and continue to make the profits on our current stocks. As we are in a high ranking we are overall very pleased and aren’t planning on selling any of our stocks currently.

We feel at this time our portfolio is doing better than before. Our ranking has risen the past couple of days and our stocks are doing better. None of our stocks are in the red which is good and we think it might be good to buy some more stocks.
We would like to see our ranking go up and maybe get rid of the last of the orange and and make it more blue on our pie chart.

We feel pretty good about our stocks right now, they aren't too bad. They have been keeping us around $103,000 to $106,000 in total equity which isn't that bad. We have two really good stocks that always earn a couple thousand for our total equity, but only one one stock has been going down a little bit, but it rises sometimes. We are pretty confident about our stocks.

So far in the game our stocks have been managing fairly well. Only a few have not been good like Google. At first we bought it at a high price and then it dropped so we lost money, but then it began to rise, but recently has come to a stand still. So were out some money there. Otherwise most of our other stocks are maintaining a constant increase. We feel that once Google reaches its buying price we will sell it, but we will keep our other stocks and mutual funds. We feel the game will continue to get better for us.

Currently our Portfolio and Holdings are looking pretty good. From the last time we posted we were 40th in rank and we have gone up to 14th. Our holdings are in an increase with the occasional drop here and there but nothing too big to harm us. We have since sold our Netflix Inc. share because we were frustrated with its performance and were tired of it always decreasing.

We hope to see our holdings to continue to increase and see ourselves increase in the rankings. Only time will tell

  82. Ben Smith's prompt...
One stock that we invested in is Papa John's Pizza. Since the time we purchased the stocks it has consistently been going up making us at times over 3,000 dollars. We invested and believe the reason for this spike in the stocks price per share is due to the fact that NFL and college football is in full swing. With the new contract of Peyton Manning signing to sponsor the company the sales have gone up dramatically with people getting chances to win free pizza if ordered on Sunday and a chance to win a trip to Superbowl 50 people are really purchasing the pizza increasing the sale numbers and increasing the price per share.

One stock that really gone up since we invested in it is papa johns pizza. It is currently making us over 3,000 dollars. There could be many reasons for this, but I think that the main reason is because it is football season. Peyton Manning is on their commercials and it they are usually played during football games, so people watching football will buy a pizza and then their stock will go up.

We are feeling good about our portfolio at this time. Our visa stock has continued to make a profit and we are thinking it will improve with everyone using Visa for Christmas shopping. We are disappointed that we have lost $301.46 in Pandora stock, but we aren’t planning on selling it.
    Changes:
We want to see a profit with Pandora and the PBYI stocks. We aren’t going to sell any stocks until the end of the game. We would also like our Visa stock to continue to go up with the season, as well as our Proctor and Gamble stock.

    Dani Writing Prompt:

Our portfolio is very diversified as we have stocks and bonds. Our stocks include Visa, Proctor and Gamble, Walgreen's, a health care stock and a gun company. It is important to diversify so that if one type of service area falls on the stock market you still have other companies that you are invested in. We tried to invest in companies such as Visa that consumers always use and will use even more frequently as Christmas shopping occurs. I dont think we could have diversified much more because we have food, technology, health, consumer goods, and weapon stocks. We are pretty happy with the stocks that we have.
